Game Formats

1-2-3 Aggie

4 player teams. Cards are stroked for handicaps. On par 5’s the team takes one best ball of the foursome for the team score. On par 4’s, two best balls of the foursome are totaled for the team score. On par 3’s, 3 best balls of the foursome are totaled for the team score. The team’s hole-by-hole team scores are totaled for the round.

If you go out with a threesome your fourth player will be determined by the pro shop using a blind draw.

1-2-3 Best Ball

At the end of the first hole, the lowest score among the four is registered on the scorecard. At the end of the second hole, the lowest two scores are recorded. At the end of the third hole, the lowest three scores are recorded. This pattern (1-2-3) repeats through the round.

If you go out with a threesome your fourth player will be determined by the pro shop using a blind draw.

3 Club Monte

Players select just three clubs to use during their round. Players are allowed a putter in addition to the three other clubs they choose. The choice of clubs can’t be changed during the round. For example, once you’ve chosen a 3-wood, 5-iron and 9- iron, those are the only clubs (other than putter) you can use during the round.

Players must tell the other players in the group which clubs they have selected to play with. This is an individual tournament; there is no team game.

Arizona Scramble

Four players tee off and the best drive is selected; the person whose drive is selected does not play the next shot. The other 3 players place a ball at the selected spot and hit. This procedure is repeated until the ball is in the cup.

If you go out with a threesome, choose someone be the 4th player on each hole. The selection of the fourth player must be made before everyone tees off, and that player must play as the fourth for the entire hole. Each person must act as the 4th player on three holes. Mark the scorecard to indicate who played the 4th ball.

Best Ball

Each player on the team plays his or her own golf ball throughout the round, and on each hole the low score – or “best ball” – of the group serves as the team score.

If you’re playing “two best balls of the foursome” then on each hole the lowest two scores of the group is the team score. If playing only “Even” or “Odd” holes, then only the scores on those holes are considered in determining the team score.

Handicaps DO apply when calculating the best ball scores on each hole.

If you go out with a threesome your fourth player will be determined by the pro shop using a blind draw.

Bramble/Best Ball

Par 4 & Par 5’s : BRAMBLE

Each player tees off.

Team selects the drive they want to use and all players hit from that position.

All players continue to PLAY THEIR OWN BALL for the remainder of the hole.

The lowest single score of the group is recorded for each hole.

Team benefits from the best drive; the drive is the only shot after which ball placement is determined by the team.

Bramble Two

Each player tees off.

Teams select the drive they want to use and all players hit from that position.

Each player continues to hit her ball all the way into the cup.

Lowest two NET scores recorded as team score.

Threesomes will receive a blind draw.

CHA CHA CHA

Each golfer plays her own ball on each hole.

On the first hole, the best net score counts as the team score. (CHA)

On the second hole, the TWO best net scores count as the team score.(CHA CHA)

On the third hole, the THREE best net scores count as the team score. (CHA CHA CHA)

The scoring continues in this way for the whole round. CHA CHA CHA!

DOTS

Goal of the game is to earn the most points as possible. Players win points by:

  • Fairway Hit: 1 point
  • One Putt on green: 1 Point
  • Chip In or Sandy from off green: 2 points

Par 3’s: BEST BALL

Each golfer plays her own ball from tee box to the cup.

Write the LOWEST score onto the team scorecard.

However, you must keep track of each player’s scores on all par 3’s.

In the event of a tie, we will be using the aggregate score of all team players on all par threes as a tie-breaker. If you do not write down each player’s score on the par threes and there is a tie, your team will be eliminated.

Team Score

The Team score is the total of the lowest scores recorded for each hole, less the team strokes.

Team strokes are determined based on the average of the individual handicaps within each group. Team strokes are deducted from the total team score at the end of the round.

If you go out with a threesome, choose someone be the 4th player on each hole. The selection of the fourth player must be made before everyone tees off, and that player must play as the fourth for the entire hole. Each person must act as the 4th player on three holes. Mark the scorecard to indicate who played the 4th ball.

If a tie cannot be broken by comparing aggregate scores on the par 3’s, cards will be matched hole-for-hole to break the tie.

Fairway 5’s

No handicaps in this game.  The object is to drive the fairway (including greens on par 3s) and limit the putts you take.  5 points are awarded for each fairway drive (or drive to the green on par 3s), 1 point is deducted for each putt.  Scores for each player are added together on each hole. The Team’s hole-by-hole scores are totaled for the round.  High score wins!

If your team is a threesome your fourth player will be determined by using a blind draw.

Fairways and Greens

No handicaps in this game.  Each player on the team gets one point for hitting her drive in the fairway and one point for hitting the green “in regulation” (par minus 2). So on par 3’s, one point is given only when the player’s drive reaches the green; no points are scored otherwise. Balls must be fully in the fairway or fully on the green to score. Add up all the points on each hole to determine the team score. High score wins!

If your team is a threesome your fourth player will be determined by using a blind draw.

High-Low Putts

Think of this format as “whack-and-hack” of putts.  Team members each play their own ball for four individual putt scores. The highest and lowest putt scores are combined to make up the team score on each hole. For example, if the four players record putts of 1, 2, 2, 3, respectively, the team score for that hole is 4 (1 + 3).  All holes are scored the same way.

If your team is a threesome your fourth player will be determined by using a blind draw.

Irish Fourball

Each golfer plays her own ball throughout round. Team will record the best ball stableford points for each individual hole. The teams will be required to use multiple scores on the Par 3’s and Par 4’s.

Par 3s – Three Best Ball Stableford Points
Par 4s – Two Best Balls Stableford Points
Par 5s – One Best Ball Stableford Points

  • Stableford Scoring (Net)
  • Double Bogey or higher – 0 Points
  • Bogey – 1 point
  • Par – 2 points
  • Birdie – 3 points
  • Eagle – 5 points

Lone Ranger

On each hole, one player in each foursome is designated the “Lone Ranger.” That
designation rotates throughout the round; Player A is Lone Ranger on the first hole, B on the second, C on the third, D on the fourth, then back to A on the fifth and so on. Teams must decide before the round who will be Lone Ranger on each hole. The holes assignment by player is as follows:

A > 1, 5, 9, 13, 17
B > 2, 6, 10, 14, 18
C > 3, 7, 11, 15
D > 4, 8, 12, 16

Two scores per hole are added together for the team score. One of those two scores must be from the Lone Ranger. So, on each hole, the team score will be the score of the player designated the Lone Ranger, plus the lowest score of the other three players on the team.

If you go out with a threesome your fourth player will be determined by the pro shop using a blind draw.

Match Play

Players are paired against another player with a similar handicap
The player with the lower handicap gives strokes to their opponent equal to the difference between their handicaps; this will generally be 1 or 2

Each person plays her own ball into the cup, record the gross score on the card.

For each pair of opponents, the person with the lower NET score wins the hole; scorethis as “+1” for the winning player, or circle the winning score on each hole.

At the end of the round, for each pair of opponents the player who won the most holes wins the round and scores points equal to the number of holes won or halved.

Gimme” putts can only be given by a player’s individual opponent
Strokes are given on holes in order of difficulty: Hole #5, Hole #9, Hole #2, etc.

Ties will be broken by comparing points won on the Par 3’s, then Par 4’s and Par 5’s if necessary

Match Play with TWO Teams

Players for the night are divided into two teams “A” and “B”

Foursomes consist of two players on team “A” paired against two players on team “B” with a similar handicap

Two-person teams play a scramble format (hit from the best shot) to get a team ball into the cup

The two-person team with the lower NET score wins the hole; score this as “+1” for the winning team, or circle the winning score on each hole.

At the end of the round, the team that won the most holes wins the match and scores that number of points for their team.

Gimme” putts can only be given by the opposing twosome

Strokes are given on holes in order of difficulty: Hole #5, Hole #9, Hole #2, etc.

Ties will be broken by comparing points won on the Par 3’s, then Par 4’s and Par 5’s if necessary

See the example below under Team Match Play for scoring; handicap strokes are in the upper right corner.

Match Play with Four Teams

Players are divided into four teams. Red, Blue, Green and Black.

Each player is matched against a player from another team and this is her opponent for the entire round.

Whoever wins the hole wins a point for her team – if the hole is tied, each team is awarded ½ point.

Handicaps determine if strokes must be given and on which holes. Cards will be marked with the stroke difference between the two players.

Please record your gross score and then adjust it for any strokes given to determine who won the point.  Keep point tally on card too.

At the end of the round, the combined point tally of BOTH players should add up to 9 as that is how many holes each pair is playing.

The TEAM with the MOST points at the end of the evening wins.

NOTES

  • A player may concede a putt or a hole to her opponent at any time.
  • Players who sign up for golf but who do not show up, automatically award their opponents 7 points and their team will receive 2.  In most cases, this will take your team out of the running.
  • Blind draws will be used to make sure all teams have the same access to points but players pulled in the draw will not be eligible for prizes.

Mystery Partner

Clubhouse will randomly pick partners while play is on course. Best ball of the two- some will be used as the team’s score.

Putts

Think of this format as “best ball” of putts. The Team score is the “best number of putts” for the team on a hole. Example: if Player A got 2 putts, Player B got 3 putts, and Player C got 1 putt, the team score for the hole is 1. All holes are scored the same way.

Individual hole scores should also be recorded for purposes of determining a “low net” winner.

If you go out with a threesome your fourth player will be determined by the pro shop using a blind draw.

Quota

Each player subtracts her handicap from 36. That number becomes the player’s “quota” or how many points she must score to get back to zero. For example, if your handicap is a 12, then your quota would be 14.

Players are awarded one point for bogey, two points for a par, four points for a birdie and eight points for an eagle. If you do not make your quota, points will be deducted by that amount. The goal is to get more points than your quota. The team with the most points over their quota wins.

If you go out with a threesome your fourth player will be determined by the pro shop using a blind draw.

Handicaps for the appropriate tees are already figured into this game so don’t stroke the card.

Scramble

All four team members tee off on each hole and then decide which tee shot they like the best and mark the spot with a tee or ball marker.

The other team members pick up their balls and place them within one club length (no closer to the hole) of the marked spot.

Each team member hits her next shot from the chosen spot of the prior shot.

This procedure is followed on every shot for the remainder of the hole, including putts.

The ball should be marked on the putting green also. Putts need to be made within 3 inches of the marked spot (no closer to the hole).

The first ball to go in the hole is counted for the team score.

If the ball you choose to play is in a hazard (sand, water, etc.), the rough, or out of bounds, you cannot drop the ball outside of the hazard or rough even if relief is within one club length away.

For a nine-hole match teams must use at least one tee shot from each team members.

If you go out with a threesome, choose someone be the 4th player on each hole. The selection of the fourth player must be made before everyone tees off, and that player must play as the fourth for the entire hole. Each person must act as the 4th player on three holes. Mark the scorecard to indicate who played the 4th ball.

Stroke Play

Players in the foursome each play their own ball for low net score. $2 game with prizes awarded to the three players with the lowest net scores.

Whack and Hack

Team members each play their own ball for four individual scores. Two of those scores are combined to make up the team score on each hole. The two scores that are used are the low ball and the high ball. So if the four players score 4, 5, 6 and 7, respectively, the team score is 11 (4 + 7).

If you go out with a threesome your fourth player will be determined by the pro shop using a blind draw.

Yellow Ball (With A Twist)

Each team starts the round with two yellow balls. Only one yellow ball is in play at a time. The yellow ball must be alternated between players on each hole. The team must decide before the round begins which player will play the yellow ball on each hole (with 3 players each player is assigned 3 holes, with 4 players, 1 player takes the yellow ball
on 3 holes and the others on 2 holes).

Record the score of the person who played the yellow ball. If you lose both balls before the end of the round record the score of the person who would have played the yellow ball.

If the team finishes the round with both yellow balls then 2 strokes are deducted from the total score.

If the team finishes the round with one yellow ball then 1 stroke is deducted from the total score.

If the team finishes without any yellow ball, 2 strokes are added to your final score.

If you go out with a threesome, choose someone be the 4th player on each hole. The selection of the fourth player must be made before everyone tees off, and that player must play as the fourth for the entire hole. Each person must act as the 4th player on three holes. Mark the scorecard to indicate who played the 4th ball.
